tagging your hate and getting mad at the backlash is like going to a star wars convention in a shirt that says “han solo sucks” and being surprised when someone punches you in the face like what the fuck were you expecting

Immortalized in movies and magazine covers, young women’s fashion of the 1920s was both a trend and a social statement, a breaking-off from the rigid Victorian way of life. These young, rebellious, middle-class women, labeled ‘flappers’ by older generations, did away with the corset and donned slinky knee-length dresses, which exposed their legs and arms. The hairstyle of the decade was a chin-length bob, of which there were several popular variations.
Cosmetics, which until the 1920s was not typically accepted in American society because of its association with prostitution, became, for the first time, extremely popular. The heavily made-up look of the 1920s was a reaction to the demure, feminine Gibson girl of the pre-war period. In the 1920s, an international beauty culture was forged, and society increasingly focused on novelty and change. Fashion trends influenced theater, films, literature, and art.
Women also found a new need to wear more make-up. A skewed postwar sex ratio created a new emphasis on sexual beauty. Additionally, as women began to enter the professional world, publications such as the French Beauty Industry encouraged women to wear makeup so as to look their best while competing with men for employment.

#Sorry I just had to make this post #I just find it so interesting that we live in a culture now #where girls hate on other girls that wear makeup #and that being natural is the way to go #and how makeup oppresses women and that if you wear it somehow you’re a whore #And it’s just interesting because almost exactly 100 years ago we had this same mentality #but in the 20’s women came into a new light of sexual and feminine liberation #The thing is that they WANTED to wear makeup so that it could liberate them #Makeup empowered them #Now 100 years into the future the world’s view is pretty much 100% opposite #It’s mind boggling when you think about it #And Asami gets the same kind of hate that women got from everyone around this time 100 years ago #Labeling her as a man stealing whore because she wears makeup and is pretty #Funny how things change
